Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. The people who aren't familiar with this term often think that it's an island that's to the west of Montreal but in fact this part of West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. At the beginning of her life, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden growth spurt made it impossible. The Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. As I got bigger than my male counterparts, I gave up. Dancers who have been in the past often switch into acting. In the case of Brugel it was a suggestion from her drama teacher. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the annual school production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the lead of Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been in over 60 productions both smaller and large. The most notable was when she landed Rita's role in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in Season 1 which was viewed only on occasion.
